Increase Solar Efficiency

The following diagrams explain the difference between a system that uses a typical pre-heat setup, and the DPS blended pre-heat setup.  Figures will vary with storage sizes and temperatures.

All hot water has to flow through both the solar pre-heat store, and the mains hot water store, which is heated by the boiler.

The pre-heat system minimises the use of the main store. All the stored solar energy will be used up before the system starts drawing everything from the main store.

The efficiency gains from this setup will be greatest for systems that are undersized.  Such systems may suffer from higher solar store temperatures, and hence reduced panel efficiency.

A thermostatic blending valve is typically required to prevent the warmed supply to outlets from rising, and another to limit the final supply temperature.
