Compact A01 alarm - modification to ignition parameters in Firmware V.10

Solution

In response to a number of reported ignition failures in Compact boilers, MCZ have made some modifications to the parameters of the products during ignition phase, namely the fan speed and pellet receipe. These modifications commenced from Firmware V.10 (released February / March 2014). The products effected are:

  • Compact 18
  • Compact 24
  • Compact 35

Following investigation of the issue it had been observed that the movement of combustion air around / past the igniter during ignition could induce chracteristics that could prevent a fully effective transfer of heat from the igniter to the pellets in the brazier. This has, to an extent, been compounded by the modification of the turbulator design last year in which the internal baffles previously fitted were deleted; this in turn reducled slightly the airflow resistance through the boiler and allowed a faster and larger volume passage of air at a set parameter.

This firmware release reduces the fan speed during ignition (Load Wood) and reduces the baffle effect that was preventing heat from dispersing from the igniter. This change may also prolong the life of the igniter.

Modifications made were to Parameter 6 (Fan spped in Load Wood) in the Technical Menu, as follows:

  • Compact 18: From 1900 rpm to 1800 rpm
  • Compact 24: From 1900 rpm to 1800 rpm
  • Compact 35: From 1900 rpm to 1700 rpm

These modifications can be made to older models in cases of intermittent ignition failure, if other causes have been eliminated.
